JAMIEL CALLAWAY-PINCKNEY:
pulls you into the story, or at least into 'X'. The dialog and everything meshed really well. But, at
some point maybe...around the 40min mark there's a noticeable shift. I think it's when you try to
introduce the meta-narrative or w/e and you start to make the movie more complex then it needed
to be. When you do that it starts to wither away the captivating elements that were working in the
movie.
As soon as that happens the movie starts to go down hill and it's really easy to get disinterested.
Since the storyline becomes confusing and stuff starts to fall apart it's difficult to want to keep
watching the movie. Like honestly if I didn't know you and you weren't my pal i would have
stopped watching. Only because you can feel the movie fall apart. Which...idk if you wanted to
intentionally happen or not. If so...you gotta do something to help the audience know this is on
purpose.
Overall, because of the shift in quality nearing the latter portion of the movie I'd give 'DEAD
MIDGETS' like 2 out of 5 stars. That's probably not the way you want the movie critiqued, but
that's the best way i can do it right now. The music was good, the filming was good, the editing was
cool, but because the storyline gets jacked up it screws everything else.
